Picture Frame Moulding Charts
Examine the charts below. Soon you will know how much moulding it takes to build any size picture frame you want to make.
The charts here are standard picture framers charts. They are very accurate. These charts show how much moulding it takes to build a picture frame with no waste left over. For example, it is impossible to build a 12"x12" picture frame using four feet of moulding. No picture framer can because of the cuts made to produce the four corners. The chart below tells you that to build a frame this size requires 5 1/2 feet of moulding because 12"+12" = 24 united inches and the chart shows 24 united inches requires 5 1/2 feet of moulding.
If you read the How To Order Custom Cut Picture Frames Page, You know how many united inches are in your picture frame. Don't call me to ask, read that page! I can't explain it any simpler.
In the chart below it is easy to see that a 8x10 frame contains 18 united inches and takes 4 1/2 feet of moulding to build.
A 23 1/2 by 35 1/2 frame rounded up to 24 by 36 contains 60 united inches (24+36=60) and takes 11 1/2 feet of picture frame moulding to build.
Notice how the United Inches in the charts are in increasing size order.
Notice that chart number two on the right, is just a continuation of the first chart.
This is all very simple. All you need to do is find the united inches in your picture frame, then using the charts below, figure out how much moulding it takes to build your picture frame. Remember you are only concerned with the yellow column, to find out the footage you need that is listed beside it in the pink column.
Make sure you remember that to get the united inches you are adding one long side and one short side together. Do NOT add all four sides together!
When finished you must scroll down to the bottom of the page and see if you can answer the question.
